1.
I created a non-empty folder [d:/projects/z]
thro either one of the following ways
- copied from another folder
- checked it out of revision control
2.
Then I edited a few of the files, each in its tabbed frame in a single NPP window.
3.
I saved all the edited files.
I closed every file in that NPP window by closing all the tabbed frames.
The NPP window now has only an empty tabbed editor frame "new 2".
4.
I saved the whole folder [d:/projects/z] to another location [d:/projects/z-update].
I proceeded to delete the folder [d:/projects/z] which I was working on.
XP responded, "Cannot delete - files in folder are in use, blah, blah"
5.
I closed NPP window. I had to save/discard other files unnecessarily.
Folder [d:/projects/z] was then deleted successfully.
Between steps 4 and 5, it shows that NPP, not CVS or window explorer, is at fault for locking the folder containing files that HAD BEEN edited by NPP - even though those files are no longer open in NPP.
This is not good for me, because sometimes I would be editing files from another folder [d:/projects/docs] together with files in [d:/projects/z]. I would then close all the files in [d:/projects/z] but then I would not wish to save or discard files in [d:/projects/docs] yet. And because I would also have editor frames in NPP which I use as "clipboards" which I wish to retain but not save.
I wish that I didn't have to close the NPP window by having to save all other files in order to delete [d:/projects/z] folder.

Due to http://sourceforge.net/forum/message.php?msg_id=4251747,
step 3 should be "new 3" rather than "new 2".

Step 5 should not have the phrase.
"I had to save/discard other files unnecessarily."

I closed NPP window.
