New to Notepad++ changed background colour to black and foreground to white which I find less tiring for the eyes. The first line (active for entering text) remains light grey so my white characters don't show until I advance to the next line. How do I change the background colour for the active line? Probably a silly question but would be grateful for your insight.

Assuming that you changed the color using Settings | Style Configurator ...
Look for 'Current line background colour' in the Style: list.
Click on the color block next to Background colour
Select your new color
Note: While you can also select a new foreground color, it may have no effect depending on the type of content you are editing (text, asp, jscript, etc.)
