Version 4.8.5 seems slower... is it just me?

    Hi,

I've auto-updated to version 4.8.5 and it seems slower and less responsive than v4.8.2 was. Is it just me? Just scrolling around the file and typing text seems to "lag" for a little bit of time...

I'm working on a 280kB SQL script file with Function List enabled... just as yesterday before it got updated.

Are there others experiencing the same thing ?

Still think Notepad++ rocks though! ;-)

      Try this:

With Notepad++ closed, go into the Notepad++ program directory, and rename the plugins directory to something other than 'plugins'.  Then, open Notepad++.  Is the lag still there?  If not, then close the program again and change the plugins directory back to its correct name.
To test which plugin might be causing the slowdowns, change the extensions of all the .dll files in the plugins directory to a different, unused extension (like .bak, .1, etc.), and repeat the above process, renaming one (another) plugin back to .dll on every run.  When/if the lag returns, the most-recently enabled plugin might be the cause.  Possible culprits include the hex editor and Explorer plugins.

      If all else fails:
Have you been installing new versions on top of old version installs?  If you don't mind having to reset your settings, do a complete uninstall of Notepad++.  Make sure the program's directory is *completely* empty (no plugins or other files; delete the entire Notepad++ directory under Program Files (or wherever you installed it to) to be safe), then reboot.  Install v4.8.5 (don't add any other plugins, styles, etc. yet), then run it, and see if the lag is present on the fresh install.
(This is what cured a case of lag for me... not sure what else would've been in the NPP directory or settings that would have caused the lag, but it started lagging somewhere around 4.7.5 for me, and not even experimenting with the plugins helped.)
