I open an unicode file which has characters inside.
After that I mark all characters with Ctrl+a and press del.
When saving this empty file the leading unicode characters 0xFEFF will not be written.
The new file length is zero bytes.
Is this wanted? It would be better, if the format of this file will be left.

Have you considered cut and paste? It'd really be annoying to me if Notepad++ decided to just insert characters in what is supposed to be an empty file...
