Use regular notepad, then. Tabs make Notepad++ better, but if you want multiple instances, you can use "-multiInst" on the shortcut. You can also change the registry entry to have that parameter on the command line. Search for "notepad++.exe".

Users should be able to double click text files in Explorer and have a new Notepad++ instance open for each text file...

go to the web page of Npp and you will seee that you can do this (from memory) by launching it with the option --multiinst
