USERS WANT A NEW ICON FILE FOR Notepad++. NO MORE THIS OLD, UGLY ICON!!!!!!!!!!!!!!NEW ICON - NEW LIFE STYLE FOR PROGRAMMERS!!!!!

      • Nobody/Anonymous

What are you talking about. I'm using Win XP and have zero problem with the icon. Yes it's a little pixelated, but very easy to live with. As suggested above, if you don't like it present options.

If anyone want to submit new icon, he/she is welcome.

However, there're a couple of conditions to be filled full :

      1. It should be pretty :) - according to my taste, so it'll be subjective totally.
      2. It should has the same look under win95/98/me. One submitted icon was eliminated because it's ugly under my win98.

I forgot the 3rd condition to be matched :

Sure the icon you submit should be in GPL license.

I like the icon from the installer :)
Only problem would be that one can't associate an editor with it (if N++ is an unknown program for the user).

English is not my mother tongue neither.

English is used in the forums for the communication among the people come from the different nations.

Writing good/correct English is hopeful for the better communication,
but it's absolutely not a criterion to express in the forums.

I understand, but I just mentioned it to illustrate why there is absolutely no need for a new icon, just as forum users don't need to speak correct English.

I'm very agree with Don HO.
Better icon or interface can attract users to start use our editor.
U spend time to fix bugs or develop new functions. but not everybody need it.
Perhaps u cost a little time u can improve the most user experiences.
Like the icon or default language color and styles.
Not everybody will change the styles before he/she familiar with the editor.
And he/she may drop the editor because of the fist ugly look.

      • Nobody/Anonymous

Correction. Everyone benefits from bug fixes, even if you havent been affected by the bug, when a bug is fixed, it means that you will never get that bug. How is an icon a user experience? Yes, I will agree the NP++ icon is a little old, but how exactly does it interfere with the "user experience"? The created of this thread made it sound like it was going to be the end of the world if a new icon isn't created. But at the end of the day, the icon does nothing for the performance or functionality of the application. Don't get me wrong, I love NP++, and I use it everyday, but I think Don has probobally got more better stuff to work on in NP++.

The requester NEEDS a new icon, which looks like an application that his boss allows him to use, so it won't be obvious that he is using software that he isn't licensed to by the company.

Well if he "NEEDS" a new icon? Can't he just change it himself? You can change the icon of windows shortcuts you know... And besides, how are we supposed to know what sort of application hes allowed to use?

Please don't get me wrong, I'm not against changing the icon, I just dont see how its a vital thing when other cooler stuff could be worked on.

Hi all: I know this is an old thread but the topic is probably still current. Does someone know where the set of icons used in the screenshots on the Notepad++ site comes from? Example screenshot: http://notepad-plus.sourceforge.net/commun/screenshots/scrsh_VibrantInk.png

      The thing is:
That icon has got nothing to do with what NP++ does as a programmer's tool: It's an editor, so its icon should look like some 'editing' thing, too. A sheet of paper with lines on it or a pencil for example. That strange chameleon is just too abstract to be remembered well by new users - they won't associate it with an editor, rather with some kind of computer game.
NP++ needs a new icon, no doubt, but one should be able to bring it together with the program's function!
