Is it possible to mark text (for copy/cut) by row and column eg. mark column 10-25, line 4-10). This would be handy when editing test data. Furthermore it would be great if changes (REPLACE) would only work on that selected block.

Also have a look at the column editor (alt+c). This allows you to insert text or numbers into the column block that you marked. Note that it *is* possible to select a zero width block, even though you can't see it.
Also, the advanced find/replace (control+r) allows you to restrict the find/replace operation to a range of columns.

If you're just talking about dragging the mouse from point A to point B to select, then hold down the ALT key while you drag. This should highlight a rectangular block.
