iam running vista 32 bussines on asus V1S notebook

i was working on my file in npp, i saved, and when i saved, a bluescreen od death appeared.. so i restarted my pc, but then i get shocked, when the file i hade opened get filled with zeros (in hex), about the same size, as it was with normal content

i used recuva, and restored 2 files in the directory where the 0 corrupt page is...smt ve-C5EE.tmp ...but one was relative old 5hours ago, and the 2th was younger, but was filled only to 1/3 (60kb was original, this was 20kb)...

doesnt make npp some temp? or is there a way to get back my data? i also tried to look in %TEMP by didnt find anything usefull there

  Is this another hard lesson in the course of working safely and backing up your (important) files?
  
  Create a back-up copy before editing a file, or just work on a copy which eventually may be the next version of the original.
  
  I still recommend some changes in Notepad++ that will allow a somewhat safer handling of files and editing them.

    the backup option should be default enabled for files, lets say smaller than 1MB

      Well, you might have taken a look into the preferences before.
      
      Menu____ : Settings
      Option__ : Preferences...
      Tab_____ : Backup/Auto-completion
      Group___ : Backup

        i didnt thought this can happen... file crash recovery would be nice (like by OpenOffice or Office)
        
        where does notepad store tmp files???

        in memory, which is volatile and gets reset on a restart after a BSOD.
