When I try to move/copy text from a file in view 1 to another file in view 2, the changes in the second file are ignored - and any other changes from this moment. It is only possible to use "Save as" to save the changes to this file. On the other side I am able to save the first file with CTRL+S, although no changes are visible.
If I change something in the second file and don't save the file before I start the first move, this behaviour doesn't appear.--------V.4.7.5

I tested it and found the same thing in v4.2.2, but only if I do it with drag and drop. If I use control+c to copy, select the other view, then control+v to paste, then it works fine.
A fairly serious bug, and I'm surprised no one has come across it before. Perhaps very few people use multi-view and drag and drop.
A colleague recently tried Notepad++ and ditched it after losing many hours work under circumstances I couldn't understand. I suspect this may be what happened to him.
Can anyone else confirm or explain this behaviour?

Strange that it's ok for you- no way it's going to get fixed if it can't be duplicated. So you have two freshly opened tabs in multi-view, and you select some text in one and drag it to the other, then save the file you dragged it to, and the text gets saved ok?
It consistently stuffs up for me, but I'm running an older version. Could the original poster please confirm that they still have the problem and that the steps above are what's required to duplicate it?

I forgot to mention that you can't really "move" text, but only "copy" it. Both actions have the same result, not matter if you press CTRL while you drag the text, or not: The selected text remains in the first file.

Wolfgang

Excellent, now three people have reproduced the problem. Now how do we go about getting it fixed, or at least brought to the attention of those people kind enough to work on this program? As I mentioned, it's already in the bug tracker as bug 1589033.

I would like to add a suffix and prefix (i.e. tags) to some lines in the edited file e.g., which I select by highlighting, rather than uisng the cursor to obtain position
e.g. I highlight the following string:
The quick brown fox jumped
and then the software returns:
<foxy>The quick brown fox jumped<unfoxy>
Can I do this with Notepad or one of its plugins

@pshute: The steps discribe exactly the problem.

I have to correct me. I can't save the changed document, but that one from I did the drag.

I just checked, and this has been reported before. Bug tracker id 1589033, reported in 2006. Does anyone feel this is important enough to be fixed?
