All: Recently, I have received several emails regarding several bugs in code that deals with various parts of the startup, particularly the reading of the .gnoii file. These are now fixed. Also, I have just posted another release at: https://sourceforge.net/project/showfiles.php?group_id=7057 Thanks to everyone who emailed me for the feedback. Any other feedback would be greatly appreciated, especially regarding the operation of the multi-thread support. Thanks again. Neil |

All: I have just released another alpha for gnoii2 0.3. This release includes: * The completion of the implementation of threads. * The addition of a proper job queue. * Lots of little bug fixes, including adding new preferences and correcting preference bugs, and correcting a bug during the error checking done during setup. I am particularly happy with the job queue. It still leaves a bit to be desired aesthetically, but functionally it seems to be pretty solid. This really improves the interactive-ness of the app, big time. Let me know if (i.e., when) you are able to crash it. Have fun with it, Neil |

All: Granted, it's an alpha version, but I think it's pretty clean. I am aware of most of the "bugs" (which are actually things I just have not gotten to yet), but submit them to sourceforge anyway. Here are the notes from the README, with a few extra comments thrown in: * Ported to GTK+ 2 (self-explanatory) * Added full threading support (I have wanted to do this for so long; python + gtk makes this relatively easy, and it seems to work quite well) * Added drag-and-drop to file lists (self-explanatory, seems to work fine) * Changed from C to Python: This was for two reasons: 1. To make development easier on me. 2. To alleviate all of the build problems people were having. (#2 was probably my biggest motivator initially; any and all, please let me know if you have any problem with the setup; the dependencies are minimal, but include: * recent python * recent pygtk, probably with a recompile and an install * no gettext, no pkg-config, no automake, no autoconf, etc., etc., etc.) Have fun with it, Neil |

Michal, all: Per the SF docs: Daily tarballs of entire project CVS Repositories are available for backup or mirroring purposes. These are available at: http://cvs.sourceforge.net/cvstarballs/nomadii-cvsroot.tar.gz That will get you all of the packages in the cvs, including libnomadii, nomadii, and gnoii. Neil |

I have a Nomad II with a 64MB card. I purchased a 128MB SmartMedia card but the Nomad II nor the software (Version 1.01 Firmware 1.03) recognize the card. Is this a hardware or software issue, and if it is a need for upgrading the software where can I find it? Using Windows, ME. Thanks for any help you can provide. Rick |

All: I have done a bunch of cvs check ins in the last week or two. Besides a lot of general cleanup and minor fixes, I have added the following: * Full support for m3u files (including viewing contents via the "play information" function, playing on local player, and transferring to player). * MP3 frame checking, (including viewing via the "play information" function, and rejecting any download with bad frames; both behaviors can be modified with the preferences dialog). Have fun with it, Neil |

All: I just updated the nomadii-mg-logs package on the sourceforge site: http://sourceforge.net/project/showfiles.php?group_id=7057&release_id=110673 The newest package is v0.3, and it includes the logs necessary to implement file reordering (a.k.a. "shifting"). Enjoy! -- Neil Hodge ne...@at... |

All: I have just released gnoii 0.1 on the Sourceforge page http://sourceforge.net/projects/nomadii/ as well as tagging the last checkin I did (tonight) in the CVS. Let me know if you have any problems, comments, or desires, and enjoy! -- Neil Hodge ne...@at... |

All: Since there were no comments regarding gnoii compilation, I went ahead and tagged the CVS tonight as "V0_1pre3". Again, let me know if you have any compilation or other problems whenever you can. I will try to release 0.1 in the next two weeks or so. Thanks. -- Neil Hodge ne...@at... |

All: With the help and direction of Tom M., I have now gotten gnoii into the project CVS repository. It's in a bit of a hosed up state right now, especially with respect to mp3 stats (bitrate, recording mode, etc.) and id3 functionality, but I think everything else is ok. CVS is the easiest way to get the most current work. Anyone can check it out anonymously. Have fun with it! -- Neil Hodge nh...@at... |

Version 0.82 of nomadii has been released. This only has a couple of minor fixes in it - the main reason for this release is the formal split of the library into a separate package. You only need to install the library (either by building the source or using the RPM) if you plan to build nomadii or gnoii. If you just plan to run the software, the RPM of nomadii is sufficient. If you installed the RPM for 0.8 you will need to erase this RPM first rather than doing an upgrade due to the name change in the RPM. If you rerun the hotplug setup script you may need to hand edit/remove the files it alters (especially /etc/hotplug/usb.usermap) to remove the old module name (nomadII is now nomadii). The CVS repository for the modules nomadii and libnomadii are now fully online (ignore the soon to be removed nomadII-utils module). Note that to edit files (if you have developer access), you need to do a "cvs edit <filename>" first to gain write access to the file and allow watcher notification to take place. If you change your mind you can "cvs unedit <filename>" instead of checking it in. |

All: I just uploaded gnoii-0.1pre2 to the "real" sourceforge web site at http://sourceforge.net/projects/nomadii/ The ChangeLog follows: * Released 0.1pre2. Actully released whole package, including patch file, due to the massive number of changes. * Fixed bug in icon/pixmap handling and added appropriate error checking. BIG thanks to Jacek Pliszka for helping me with this. * Added .wma files to types known as "music" files. * Improved error checking in util.c:check_for_startup_file. * Added multiple file selection for all currrent functionality. * Added upload functionality. * Added preference to view music files only or all files. * Added preference to transfer music files only or all files. * Added indicator to progress bar to indicate transfer direction. * A lot of code clean up in general, including the removal of a bunch of fixed length buffers. As always, let me know if you have any serious problems with it. -- Neil Hodge nh...@ya... |

Not content with the most exiting software update for the Nomad II on Linux this year, following hot on its heels is the initial release of NVF Tools 0.1. This package is a set of utilities for playing and converting the NVF files created by the Nomad II in Voice Mode. http://nvftools.sourceforge.net/ In the immortal words of the Sirius Cybernetics Corporation: Share and enjoy! |
