I did a sync from Thunderbird to Nokia 6233 and it works as well. One major glitch, it wants to erase all contacts from thunderbird that do not have a phone number.

Well, it seems that this is not as simple as I thought...
Since the NOKIA phone does not store the date the contact was changed,
there is no way NokSync can know if it should be added to the phone,
or deleted in Thunderbird.
In case there is no phone number, YOU may want the contact added to NOKIA
(without phone number, presumably to have the email address in the phone)
but others may just have deleted the contact in the phone, and just
want it deleted in Thunderbird as well.
So, unless I hear major objections,
I will just leave it as it is...

You can work around that, if you mark the entries as never to be synchronised. This works well for me with version 1.2.09. The only thing: You should not forget this.

Unfortunatly the NOKIA phone does not store the time a contact was modified.
Hence it is difficult for NokSync to know which way to synchronize.
(After the first sync, NokSync will work a little better, by comparing the date of the last sync to the modification date in Thunderbird).
In any case, you can change which way each contact is sync'ed using the button near the bottom in the "Select Contacts To Synchronize" window.
For info on how NokSync is working, see section "Notes on how NokSync decides what to synchronize" on http://www.kaarposoft.dk/noksync/manual.html

...but I just read contacts from the phone and wrote them into addressbook - not the other way round.

Whoops, I will correct the "erase all contacts from thunderbird that do not have a phone number" in the next version.
