#24 windows 2000 installer trouble
Hi,
I've been using the great nmap tool for quiet a long time
under Linux.
Now I wanted it to run under Windows 2000 too.
But now I've got a severe problem after nmap
installation. Please help me.
I checked M$ Knowledge base and support. But that
didn't help.
I also googled around. It seems to be a quite new
problem with Windows-Installer.
I'm very interested to get this fixed.
0. I'm running M$-Windows-2000, SP1, Windows-
Installer V2.00.2600.2, (msiexec dated 01/26/2000)
1. Installing nmap-3.00-win32 and nmapwin_1.3.0.exe
worked (and still works) fine.
2. Starting M$-Office Products afterwards (they needs
Windows-Installer):
I get an error message talking about a link problem,
Windows-Installer is not accesible.
3. Event-Viewer-Log:
Source: MsiInstaller
Event-ID: 1014
Descr.: "The Windows Installer Proxy Informations are
not correctly registered."
4. Trying to re-install nmapwin_1.3.0.exe fails:
=> While "Configuring Windows-Installer"
=> Install-Shield-Error 1607: "Unable to install
InstallShield Scripting Runtime"
Installing Win2000 SP2, SP3 did not help.
I still can run nmap and nmap-win (no problem at all) but
none of the M$-Office products.
Windows Installer Service still runs.
This problem seems to be similar to those described in

Maybe it would be useful to get the Class-ID for the
registry so I can remove some keys?

yes, you're right the is a problem with the installshield
installer. I'm currently in contact with installshield to get if

Try v1.3.1. It has a new InstallShield version, with a lot of
patches applied.
