Hello Jay,

I was about to begin developing my own movie database,
but I decided to search the web first to see if anyone
else had already done so...not wanting to re-invent the
wheel and all. :)

Anyway, I stumbled upon yours and at first blush it
appears quite nice. However, after working with it for
a few minutes, I noticed that there are some minor
hang-ups with regard to data entry. For example, I
believe your database may be keying on specific words
to determine whether or not the end of a record has
been reached...such as "**** The End ****". You may
want to reconsider.

From the main screen in “movies”, I attempted to enter
data without populating the "About" and leaving the
default "**** The End ****" in its place. By doing so,
I was not able to view the record. When I went into
"data entry" and attempted to save an entry there (very
nice section by the way...especially with the web
access), I was informed that the entry was (or maybe) a
duplicate.

May I suggest the use of a primary key to be generated
by you rather than keying from the movie title? Also
using ISBN and BAR CODE numbers as subset keys to
further identify movies will help. The reason for this
is: what happens if a user has two of the same titled
movies, but one was released at a later date due to
improvements in technology (e.g., "Star Wars")? You
would still want to record this information.

I've attached an Excel spreadsheet listing the movies
that I have along with some of the fields I would use
if I were to develop a database.

I think if you fix your primary key and limit where the
user is able to enter data, you will reduce the amount
of data entry errors that could occur.

I would love to help you with this project, but I am
already in the middle of trying to complete one for my
company and besides, it’s never quite the same when you
let others meddle with your work…which is again, quite
nice.

I hope you can use some of my suggestions. Let me know
if I can help otherwise.
