Felix,

for testing if it is a problem of the B source you might add an E source 
in between:

Bres temp1 temp2 V=<  some f(v(a),v(b)>
Eres 1 2 temp1 temp2 1
B_avg 4 5 I=i(Eres)^2

To figure out where the leading b. is missing, could you provide me with 
a complete input file for testing?
