#32 Limitation for header downloading by age

It would be extremly helpful to implement limitation
for downloading headers from server. By age or by
number. The same way as newsbin(newsbin.com) does it.
Let's say download headers for past 7 days or not more
then 200000 headers. Also purge header beyond the limit
from gzipped archive after download is complete. It
will solve many memory issues when working with huge
newsgroups.

I second this request. I thought I found exactly what I was
looking for, but without a way to limit the number of
headers downloaded from a group, I'm stuck downloading a
couple million instead of the couple hundred thousand most
recent, where I know they exist.

I'll keep an eye out and my fingers crossed. Keep up the

Limitation based on number of headers is now available in
CVS with the .ngetrc maxheaders option. I don't see an easy
way to limit based on age, but if someone comes up with a
good method for doing it given the limitations of NNTP, or
even a patch...
