I've just installed 2-2.0-b7 (amd64, deb), but when I open the "connect" window (which is where I think I should fill in my Evernote info), it immediately closes.

Well that was an easy fix -- seeing that it didn't create the nixnote folder, I found I still had both nixnote1 and nixnote2 installed, and was launching nixnote1. So nixnote1 has the problem as described, but nixnote2 launches fine.

Ok. If you want to use the old nixnote, download the nixnote.jar from SourceForge and replace the existing nixnote.jar in /usr/share/nixnote. I think that will correct the closing problem, but if you don't have the old libssl0.9 libraries you still won't be able to connect. I can't do anything about that. That is one of the reasons for NixNote2.
However, I'd just recommend using NixNote2. ;-)

Please set the message level to debug and attach the logs found in
~/.nixnote/logs-1/
