For pcmcia to work, you will need to install card services, and you
will need to compile the needed modules for your setup. I have not yet
figured out how to do a cross-compiled 'make modules_install', and I
did not feel like trashing my development machine. So I copied the
kernel tree into the NFS-mounted rootfs and did the modules_install
there -- works well.

If this works reasonably well then I suppose we can put this up in
the files section.
