Hi Manty, I am sure we will get things working... > > Well, let's see, I have built a new kernel with your last patch, I have left > it on http://networkstation.aytolacoruna.es/new/ > > The thing is that we have not noticed any change besides the fact that now > fbi seems to work ok and that the colours have changed on the X 3.3 server. What color depths does fbi work ok in? If fbi works ok displaying a true color photo, then the fbdev works ok in whatever mode you are using. Let's stick to just one X version for now and one kernel version, i.e. 2.4.19 for the time being. > 4.2.1 (S3) works ok but only the widgets are seen, no pixmaps, fonts or any > graphic (tested with gwview) is seen on the screen, mozilla > appears "transparent" The good thing is that there is no > double image any more. > On X 4.1.0 I get the same results as with 4.2.1. FB was tested using > Jochen's config for both fb.modes and X. I would think that the X server is not really running in fbdev mode. I can't tell for sure without the XFree86 log files... > BTW, while native S3 driver gives the exact standard 1024x768x85 mode that > the NCOS did, the FB still doesn't get the frequencies right and in 8 bpp > the left side of the screen is a little bit off (not seen). Here are some things to check: What video mode do you have configured in the firmware setup? My test monitor here only does 60Hz, so I use 640x480-60 or 1024x768-60. Please try one of those two firmware settings. What firmware version are you running? I use 3.1.0.2 here. I don't think that this should matter, but the register dumps (see above) would show this. IMPORTANT: If things don't work, please enable all calls to trio_dump_regs(). There are four places this function gets called. They are all disabled with #if 0/#endif -- I need the dumps emailed for diagnosis. Please email all logs in sets, where a set contains /var/log/dmesg, the section from /var/log/messages, /var/log/XFree86.*.log, and the XF86Config-4 that went with it. Please also send output from 'lspci -vv' and 'hexdump /proc/bus/pci/00/*', just to make sure. I would prefer to stick to one version of X and one kernel version if you want me to debug the problem. Things don't get easier with more variables. Below are output from dpkg -l and my XFree86.0.log file.
