Well, let's see, I have built a new kernel with your last patch, I have left it on http://networkstation.aytolacoruna.es/new/ The thing is that we have not noticed any change besides the fact that now fbi seems to work ok and that the colours have changed on the X 3.3 server. I have tried to get the same config you have running here without any results, let me resume what I'm seing here: 3.3.6 (FB) works with an endianness problem (before grey was green, now blue) 4.2.1 (FB) starts but I cannot see a thing. Screen is black or the bottom half of it is filled with one colour (blue) or has a weir image of the fb that was on screen before booting. 4.2.1 (S3) works ok but only the widgets are seen, no pixmaps, fonts or any graphic (tested with gwview) is seen on the screen, mozilla appears "transparent" The good thing is that there is no double image any more. 4.3.0 screen is black and in FB the kernel doesn't show any mode change, weird! On X 4.1.0 I get the same results as with 4.2.1. FB was tested using Jochen's config for both fb.modes and X. The output of the kernel when booting X 4.X in FB mode is: s3triofb_op_set_var con=6 1024x768-1024x768-16bpp mode=22271 56 8 41 0 176 8 -- act=2 fb_mmap() enter fb_mmap() success s3triofb_op_set_var con=6 1024x768-1024x768-16bpp mode=15385 160 24 29 3 136 6 AT act=0 pixclock = 15385ps freq = 64998000 s3_compute_clock(64998000): got 0x742b 64981000 s3_compute_clock(60000000): got 0x6b2b 60025000 s3_load_video_mode 1024x768-1024x768-16bpp 15385ps done The packages I've used were: for X 3.3.6 and X 4.2.1 the ones we have at networkstation.aytolacoruna.es, for X 4.1.0 the official ones at woody, and for X 4.3.0 the ones at http://www.penguinppc.org/~daniels/sid/ with a sid filesystem. I also tested Debian's sid packages for X 4.2.1 in case mine had something wrong with them. Jochen, if you could test the kernel I have put on the web or tell us what packages you are using? I just don't know why it works for you but not for us :-( > I am running this with XFree86 4.1.0-16 at 1024x768-60-16. Stinks, this is the same one I have tried here, and with your configs. I just cannot understand what I'm doing wrong. Jochen, could you take a look at the config I have left on the web to see if I missed something? > 800x600-60-16 works well if set by fbset, tested with vanilla fbi. Vanilla fbi works here also, I tested 1024x768-60-16 mode of yours. I just don't know what I'm doing wrong :-( One thing we were quite happy to see was that the new FB code has fixed the double image of the S3 driver on X 4.2.1, we are wondering why we don't get the text or the images, and we are only seing the widgets (boxes and filling and their movement is working ok) also the hardware mouse pointer is missing. I think we are gonna try to look at this a bit. BTW, while native S3 driver gives the exact standard 1024x768x85 mode that the NCOS did, the FB still doesn't get the frequencies right and in 8 bpp the left side of the screen is a little bit off (not seen). Also, in the past days I have ported Jochen's patches to 2.4.21rc6 I dropped IDE support as this has changed a lot on 2.4.21 but I think I kept all the other stuff. I'm not publishing this yet becaus ot is based on the old patch4 from jochen and not the latest, and also because sound support is not working anymore, I'll have to investigate this further. Anyway, right now all I want to know is what I'm doing wrong with all this :-( Regards... |
