Something else that may be of interest to you -- firmware versions P.1.17 and below report incorrect mac addresses when queried via SNMP. I contacted Procurve support today and they provided me firmware P.2.3. It is not available on HP's website but has been RTM and is fully supported. It has a few fixes for ARP cache issues. I can post the release notes and firmware download if you're interested.
