Debian is ok, you have all you need in packages and Oliver has made pretty good job with Debian specific documentation.

The best advice I can give on this is ... not Red Hat! This path will surely deliver you unto perl hell as I have been on several occasions.
My impression is BSD is the most straight forward but others can confirm.
