I am going to back up what everybody (notably Thomas and Simon) have said about a different version of the OS, especially linux 2.2.x The reason is that I have heard of three sysadmins (two of which I trust) report problems with the 2.4.x series of kernels and the network stack (TCP/IP) for some cards - one was having trouble with samba, the other two with NFS - all three reportedly had no problems with (almost) identically configured versions of the 2.2.x version of the kernel. hope that helps, cheers, Adam.
