All, We use a netatalk (2.0-beta2) share on FreeBSD 4.9 to backup data files from an OSX 10.3.4 Powerbook(s). About 2.5 Gigs of data gets copied across about once a week. The process we use is to rename the existing copy on the share pb_data_old and then drag the folder pd_data to the share to copy it across. The issue is to then delete the folder pb_data_old. I understand the best way to remove old copies of the data from the share would be via the client. ie just drag it to trash. The problem(s) is we encounter are 1) locked files which prevents the data from being deleted and 2) it takes a long(ish) time. Is it safe to use the unix command line to delete the directory pb_data_old or will it corrupt the netatalk backend database in the longer term ? Any suggestions on how to delete large amounts of (redundant) data would be appreciated. I have looked through the mailing list but not found an answer to our problem.
