snmpset timing out

Hi,

All my snmpsets are timing out - here's how it looks:
alpha-linux:\~/> ps -ef | grep snmp
root      8049     1  0 10:01 pts/5    00:00:01 ./snmpd
mala     17269 14606  0 19:17 pts/6    00:00:00 /bin/grep -i snmp
alpha-linux:\~/> snmpget localhost public sysContact.0
system.sysContact.0 = "foo"
alpha-linux:\~/> snmpset localhost public sysContact.0 s "bar"
Timeout: No Response from localhost

The same happens with sysName.. Any clue what the problem is?
