Bug #133621, was updated on 2001-Feb-22 08:26 Here is a current snapshot of the bug. Project: net-snmp Category: None Status: Open Resolution: None Bug Group: None Priority: 5 Submitted by: navkal Assigned to : nobody Summary: net-snmp ignores new authentication password Details: I am implementing an element manager that allows the user to change the SNMPv3 authentication password on a target device. After successfully changing the password on the device, the application closes the existing session, reopens it with the new password, and makes a GET request. However, the library continues to use the old password, resulting in an authentication failure. As far as I can see under my debugger, the new SNMP session is correctly initialized with the new password. I wonder whether the underlying OpenSSL library is remembering the old password and ignoring the new one. Can you suggest a workaround for this problem which I can use until a fix is available? Thank you. Follow-Ups: Date: 2001-Feb-23 11:24 By: nobody Comment: I have solved my problem. I guess I would call it a user error rather than a bug. I discovered that net-snmp actually uses the authentication key from the user structure rather than the SNMP session. Thus, opening a new SNMP session with the new password did not help when the user structure continued to store the old password. I have solved the problem by updating the authentication key in the user structure as well. ------------------------------------------------------- For detailed info, follow this link: http://sourceforge.net/bugs/?func=detailbug&bug_id=133621&group_id=12694 |
