The SNMP agent will be able to give you individual values for how much traffic has been going through a particular network interface on a server. You'd normally use something like MRTG or Cricket to graph this over a period of time. But if you're looking at the traffic to/from a specific UDP (or TCP) port on the server, then the standard agent doesn't monitor that level of detail. The TCP MIB will tell you what connections are established, but not how much traffic is going over them. The IF MIB will tell you how much traffic is being sent over a network interface, but not which connections it belongs to. The options are probably either management code within the server application itself. Or some form of "real-time" monitoring tool, such as ethereal (as Sal suggested) Ethereal is a separate tool, and is not simply another SNMP MIB. I don't believe that it uses SNMP at all when gathering its data. See http://www.ethereal.com/ Or you may find that there are pre-built versions available for your system. Dave |
