Initial Comment:
when i check a 64bits linux host from a 32 bit linux
host, i have.

$ uname -a
Linux madpc018 2.6.12-gentoo-r2 #2 SMP Thu Jun 30
15:26:48 CEST 2005 i686 Intel(R) Pentium(R) 4 CPU
3.00GHz GenuineIntel GNU/Linux
$ snmpwalk -v 2c -c public hal IF-MIB::ifInOctets.2
IF-MIB::ifInOctets.2 = Counter32: 0

when i check from a 64bits host, i have
$ uname -a
Linux hal 2.6.12-gentoo-r2 #1 SMP Tue Oct 4 21:09:54
CEST 2005 x86_64 AMD Opteron (tm) Processor 844
AuthenticAMD GNU/Linux
$ snmpwalk -v 2c -c public hal IF-MIB::ifInOctets.2
IF-MIB::ifInOctets.2 = Counter32: 114246239496

Thanks for the bug report!  We've fixed the problem in the
main development tree, so it should be fixed in the 5.3 release
of the net-snmp package.

Richard, I guess you mean 5.2.1, not 4.2.1?
Anyway: if 5.2.2 and 5.3 work fine, then please upgrade once
they're available. Upgrading from 5.2.1 to 5.2.2 is
considered safe (as this is a bugfix only branch).

If you're using a vendor package (e.g. a RPM package from
your Linux distro), you need to ask the vendor for the fix.

Can you try with 5.3.pre4 or 5.2.2.rc6 on *both* sides? I
think this will eliminate your problem.

sorry, i don t mention it, but i test and try with several
version, and mixed of them (client and server)

i try with:
$ snmpwalk -V
NET-SNMP version: 5.2.1.2

snmpwalk -V
NET-SNMP version: 5.3.dev

What net-snmp version are you using? Please retest with
5.2.2.rc6 and/or 5.3.pre4 because I think the issue should
be fixed there.
