Hello,

I am running binary version of net-snmp 5.4.1 on HP-UX 11.11.

When running snmptable command for OID .iso.org.dod.internet.mgmt.mib-2.host.hrSWRun.hrSWRunTable(.1.3.6.1.2.1.25.4.2) I do not get the complete process list as compared to a pf -ef command on the same device.

Output Examples:

ps -ef

Does it always stop at the same process or after the same amount of processes? If you do multiple snmpwalks shortly after another, do they always report the same output or does it differ a lot?

Do you have many short-lived processes? The agent may get confused by getting the process list and then finding a process not existing when looking into the details of the process.

BTW, has the binary been compiled on the same (type of) machine/OS/kernel? 32- or 64-bit kernel? 32- or 64-bit binary?

See Bug 1746831 for a race condition reported on Linux. May it apply here, too?

Multiple snmpwalks done just seconds apart over a few minutes produce the same output.

The system in question has a stable set of processes. No short lived processes coming and going.

Binary version installed is for 64bit and is running on a 64bit system.

The technical details of bug 1746831 are a bit over my head but I do not believe this is the same situation.

The next process would be PID 13249. There must be something special to it. Can you try running strace/truss (or whatever is the HP-UX equivalent, I forgot) on the snmpd binary during the walk and look for suspicious errors? Feel free to post the output if you don't manage to find something yourself.

    I'm not sure that's correct.
The hrSWRunTable is indexed by process ID
(unlike the output of ps), so the next entry
    would probably be 39 (vxfsd).

The problem with snmptable is that it traverses
all of the columns in parallel, so a problem
with any one of them might throw the whole command
    out of kilter.
Could you try running "snmpgetnext ... hrSWRunName.33"
    What does that return?

It might also be worth running "snmpwalk" on each of the
columns individually, to check whether this problem
affects the whole table, or just selected columns.
