Configuration

Where NeoArch keeps its settings, what each key means, and how to read or change them — from the GUI or the terminal.

Overview

NeoArch stores everything under ~/.config/neoarch/. Most settings are changed from the Settings page, but the same values can be read and written from the neo config CLI — handy for scripting or syncing machines.

Path What it holds
~/.config/neoarch/ Persistent app configuration
~/.config/neoarch/ignored_updates.json List of packages skipped by updates
~/.cache/neoarch/backups/ Backup archives created by neo backup

Settings page vs CLI

The Settings page covers appearance and behavior. neo config reads and writes the same store:

neo config get theme # read a config key
neo config set theme dark # write a config key

Ignoring updates

Ignoring a package tells NeoArch's Updates page to skip it until you change your mind — the list lives in ignored_updates.json:

neo ignore -a linux-lts # add to ignore list
neo ignore -l # list ignored packages
neo ignore -r linux-lts # remove from ignore list

Holding packages (IgnorePkg / HoldPkg)

Holds work through pacman's own IgnorePkg/HoldPkg configuration via the hold/marks commands:

neo hold list # show holds
neo hold linux # hold a kernel
neo hold unhold linux
neo hold reason firefox explicit # set install reason

Scheduling & parallel downloads

neo parallel # show ParallelDownloads
neo parallel 10 # set it (root)
neo schedule # show weekly schedule
neo schedule set --days 1,3,5 --time 05:30 --enable

Good to know

  • All paths live under your home directory — nothing is written to system locations without root privileges.
  • Backup and snapshot commands are separate from configuration; see Software Updates and the backup examples in CLI reference.
  • Config is plain JSON — your credentials for cloud sync are cached token files (exp-aware) handled on Settings.
