I'm indeed also encountering the same issue. The issue also only appearing in the editor field. E.g. the find box is not affacted.
It seems to be related to a change in openmotif 2.3.4 to solve issues with the numpad arrows: http://bugs.motifzone.net/long_list.cgi?buglist=1649
If I undo the patch #1300 for openmotif 2.3.4, recompile the software and reboot the issue is indeed resolved. But in that case the numpad arrows indeed no longer work.
As mentioned in the bug report, the openmotif demo 'periodic' does not seem to have this issue. So I expect it a combination of a change in openmotif and how the editor field is implemented in nedit.

I had the same problem using motif-2.1.32, just popped up out of nowhere. I recompiled it and the problem so far has yet to resurface in the new binary.
