#676 National preference characters in dialogue boxes

In version 5.5, if I have a national preference character (192-255 in ISO Latin 1) in myclipboard, e.g. "ü", picked up from, say, an XTerm, I can put it into a "Find" dialogue or a "Replace" dialogue using the middle mouse button. If I have picked it using CTRL-C, I can deposit it using CTRL-V. That no longer works in version 5.6 built 4 Mar 2016. Can that be restored? It's apparently in the diaglogue box, but it doesn't display, the evidence being that it does get found. I can deposit it in the text using the middle mouse button. If I have picked it using CTRL-C, I can deposit it in the text using CTRL-V. If I have it in the text, I can highlight it, and then search for it using CTRL-G or CTRL-H, but it doesn't appear in the search dialogue or replace dialogue.

My primary font is -adobe-courier-medium-r-normal--18-180-75-75-m-110-iso8859-1. The highlight fonts are filled from the primary font. Is there a broken X resource that controls the fonts in dialogue boxes?

Is this perhaps a system problem instead of a NEdit problem? My system is Scientific Linux 6.8. My window manager is KDE 4.3.4.
