Your hint is not working for me. The only difference I see is that now=20
the first error message I got from "iwlist wlan0 scanning" is:

"wlan0     Failed to read scan data : Resource temporarily unavailable"

(No, the problem isn't the AP, which I can access from WinXP)

And when I try again I get the usual:

"wlan0     No scan results"

In the meantime, if I switch to virtual console 1 I can see the usual=20
never-ending screen of:
