I have orbiter 2005 patch 050216 and I also downloaded
latest version of Nassp (6,4) and NEP.
So I made it to the moon (the eagle has landed) and
Tried to go on a walk (EVA). So, Decompressed the
hatch, Opened it, and clicked the EVA switch to exit
the LEM. I am on the surface of the moon looking great.
When I tried to plant the flag I pressed the F key and
heard "one small step for man, one giant leap for
mankind" and the message from the presiden (that was
very cool guys). However now my astronaut apears half
in the powder(only his head and shoulders are outside
of it) and I get a hang up when I try to eneter the
LEM again...
As soon as my astronaut dissapears from the lunar
terain I get a GPF and Orbiter hangs up! That's it!
finito...As soon as I get into the LEM Orbiter kicks
the bucket...
Why is that? I want to plant the flag before I go...
and I certainly don't want to leave neil behind...(at
least not without a VCR!)
Any ideas? Have you seen that before?
Thanks in advance guys.

I rewrote that code recently, so I'll take a look as soon as
I have time. However, I didn't have any problems with
re-entering the LEM myself when testing it... maybe it's a
weird timing issue.

Thanks for the hint, didn't about the F key to plant the
flag. Fortunately I had a saved scenario before egress
because my saved scenario during lunar EVA is not loadable.
(the known and feared white-out crash at startup)
I didn't have the GPF error using the 6.4.2 version with the
Apollo 11 landing, (is it fixed?) but the texture of the US
flag is missing here. The flag is all white, maybe to
negotiate with the Lunarians? :-)
Some rumours go this texture shows up on the S4B after
jettison. I didn't see that however.
And the flag floats instead of standing on the surface, just
as the LM itself is suspended up about half the length of
the lunar contact probes under the footpads. (Neil, who is
supposed to stand on the footpad at egress, has it about
chest-height)
By the way, it would be a lot better looking if these
contact probes folded sideways at touchdown (and the flag is
knocked over at ascent blastoff, just like the real one did)...
And the poor Buzz Aldrin is denied his own moonwalk
altogether in this simulation. Orbiter just crashes after I
shift focus back to the LM to try a second EVA. And even if
I don't try EVA I can't change back the focus to Neil on the
lunar surface so, without doing a restore, Buzz had to
leave him behind.

I had another go and can't reproduce this. My guess is that
you had some MFD active which doesn't behave nicely when the
vessel it's using is deleted?
