I noticed a build failure with GCC 12.0.1 prerelease in config/configure. See an attached patch for the details and the fix.

Hi, I've applied your patch and pushed it to master, thanks!

I should have been a little more specific in my commits when I made that change almost 20 years ago, but I've gotten better, I swear! :)

At any rate, IIRC the reason I unset CFLAGS was to avoid corruption of the configure run, since that flag would be set by imake and I recall there were build problems with that at the time (with it set).
