I was just wondering which encryption/decryption algorithm will be used here? Is it DSS or some other? Is this going to be a multi user or single user application?

Security is maintained by Jini which uses an 'access control list' and 'user identification'. Data is transferred via method serialization. I do not think encryption is needed. This environment is after all going to be used in a LAN, not as a distributed computing environment via the internet (like seti@home for example).
First priority however is the designer client (without the client plug-in).
The designer software will be a single user application.
