Hi, my name is Claudio and I am an Italian amateur astronomer.
I am building the device and I made a change to the schematic.
    I attach a drawing and a photo.

It could be helpful for others too.
    Best regards

This eliminates the LM708 voltage regulator and heatsink.
The LM2596 voltage regulator can be found on Amazon

    Hi Claudio,

which benefits do you foresee for having that buck converter instead of the IC 7805?

    Thanks for sharing

    Hi Miguel,
in my case there were some disadvantages and some advantages.
    Disadvantages:
1 - more space needed to realize the project
    Advantages:
1 - economical having to consider the capacitors and the integrated circuit that in the area where I live are not available and on Amazon you have to buy more pieces of the same type. An HW411 voltage regulator on Amazon, 6 units cost about $ 10 and I can use them for other things.
2 - fewer problems for the installation of the heat sink on the 7805 integrated circuit since the space on the PCM is not much.
3 - better thermal dissipation of the entire system.

The modification is very simple and fast, and each of us will evaluate the convenience of making it based on the available material.

    Regards
    Clay F.

      Thanks for sharing your idea.

That is why I added a small fan to suck the hot air out of the project box. This method works so far after many years using this SQM+。

This 141 update is a major update, which includes updates to drivers, applications and firmware.

Update 141 is a package deal. New applications that are part of this update should NOT be used with firmware 139_03 or lower. Existing applications are not supported with firmware v141.

With this 141 update the following are now deprecated, unsupported and will be removed from this public site.

    Hi all

Just a update - the release is delayed a few days due to some late additions to the firmware.
The existing ASCOM OC driver for mySQM+ is now on the same release as some fixes are required.

    Regards
    Robert

    07-May-2025

There will be a somewhat detailed post about this project in a week or so. As I have intimated in a previous post, there was a planned migration to
    Firmware 320+
    Arduino IDE 2.3.6
    Expressif ESP32 Core 3.2.0

For that migration there is both bad news and good news coming. More about that later,

    Regards
    Robert

Hi, update for mysqm+ not yet started, but when I do it should not take long.
I am still working on myFP2ESP32 update, which is now going to be a major release, instead of an update. It was nearly ready for release a week or so ago, till I decided to bite the bullet and rewrite all the board/driver code. hence more delays. I may be retired but there ain't enough hours in a day or days of the week at present.

    brownrb - 2025-07-09

    Hi Andrew
Not yet. I see that post was 2 months ago. Time flies.

    Reason:
Am trying hard to finalise the update for myFP2ESP32 WiFi Controller. That update ending up being a significant rewrite of code. Which of course needs testing. And Documentation,
and the design of a new boards to replace the ESP32-Dev.

It has migrated into two paths now
    Path1
Use existing controller, some new options added, some removed
    Path 2
Use adapter board to replace existing esp32-dev chip.
    Path3
    New PCB's with new Chip

For path 1 and 2 the further development will slow down and stop.
Path 3 will be supported moving forward.

Once I post the new user guide for Focuser you will very quickly see how significant that update actually is. In fact, there are now TWO user guides, one for ESP32-DEV and the other for different Chip.

I intended to use the myFP2ESP32 project as a primer to do the mySQM+
I still think that decision was the right thing to do.
I underestimated (by a huge margin) the time and complexity of the "upgrade".
And I am still working on it. Currently in testing phase and updating the user guides as needed. Progress from last post is quite significant considering the numerous tall mountains that had to be climbed to get it where it is now.

I believe that what I learned from this should shorten the amount of time to upgrade mySQM+ but am pretty sure I will run into the same issues, like having to create a whole new set of PCB and move to another chip which replaces the ESP32-DEV.

I did create an "Adapter Board" which is a small footprint PCB which has pins that go into the ESP32 chip, then headers on the board that the new Chip plugs into. That means no need to replace the controller and connectors etc - just remove the esp32 and plug in the adapter board.

But am pretty sure for mySQM+ that it will move to new PCB's as well.

    Summary
No have not started the mySQM+ upgrade. Will start once myFP2ESP32 WiFI Focuser Update is released.

    regards
    Robert

I note that ESP32 core was updated again yesterday to 3.2.1
I did a quick check late last night (focuser code) and did not find any issues with the current code.

    Hi Dave

This is the current state of things
    myFP2ESP32

    Has now changed into
    1. Update of Firmware ESP32 Dev Module with Enhancements, v321+
    Existing PCB's
New Firmware for ESP32 Dev Modules Only
Firmware + Document Done, Firmware in testing
Updated ASCOM Driver, Updated Windows app, incomplete
ASCOM Conform of ALPACA, ASCOM Driver to do
    Video to do

    2. Migration myFP2ESP to new Chips/PCB's/Firmware - partially complete, untested
    New PCB 2025.
New firmware 321+ only runs on new chips
    Firmware not yet complete, untested
    PCB's untested
    Documentation partially completed
    ASCOM Conform of ALPACA
    Video to do

because doing a full release to 2. is just going to a few months or more.

    mySQM+
Still on hold. My current plan is to follow much the same as per above
    1. Next release migrates existing firmware to latest ESP32 Core release
    2. Start work on next update, Hardware, PCB's, firmware only after (1) is released.

Send msg to me re email address and I will pass on info related to myESP32 current progress.

    Regards
    Robert
