As a work around you can specify the options to pass to FUSE like:

mysqlfs -o\-oallow_other -ohost=localhost -ouser=user -opassword=password
-odatabase=mysqlfs  ./fs

note the \-0 escape. this passes -oallow_other to the fuse main
