I would love to be wrong, but I consider GSoC to be a mere waste of time: * lots of paperwork and boring questions to answer. * high chance of rejection (and even after you've spent so much time filling in their crap, all you get is an automated message). * especially since I believe most GSoC curators have not touched HDLs and never will. * mediocre quality code often gets written. * keeping students in the project after GSoC ends is difficult. Just my personal opinion. I got Milkymist rejected twice and mentored one project, and now I do not want to hear about GSoC again.
