I also have a small stepper motor controller implementation that could be used for a class (after review by some experts :-)). The only problem with it is that you have to hook up a stepper motor driver chip. You can do this on a breadboard, but it entails hooking up about 10 wires. Sort of a waste of time during a class. I used the L298N driver chip which can come as a thru-hole part. Cheers!
