Nevermind.  Found the "x" issue.  For every clock, prior to the reset event, the
state was being assigned x's.

I'll still take a look at the enum thing, even though it's more of a "nice to
have".  In the meantime, may I suggest demoting this to a informational message,
rather than raising an exception?
