Too bad, I was looking forward to buying a couple, I was kind of suspecting that that the Mx7 might be having some problems getting into production. At least Softfield is still supporting the Vr-3. I can't understand why it seems to be so difficult to get a Linux based PDA off of the ground, the OS license is free and you have to write the organizer software anyway. If you could get some excellent organizer software and the ability to sync well with Windows, Mac, and Linux. I would think that the underlying OS would be irrelevant to the general public. It seems that Sharp's Zarius is the only Linux based handheld that has the critical mass to compete for shelf space at the retail level and while I think the Zarius is a fine handheld computer, it's more than most people need (or want to pay for) as a PDA. Hi All > I'll be sure to post here when I have some good news... I just heard from Softield that they have decided to produce what was going to be the MX7 exclusively for a single brand name customer. Early next year we might find out who is going to release that new small form factor PDA, whether it will still run linux, and exactly what features it has (probably more features or it won't stand a chance in the current market). It's a shame but I get the impression that Softfield did not have the resources to fund a large (ie. efficient) production run and all the support and development required. In the meantime has anyone got any suggestions for a small, low cost linux PDA? I think some Pocket PC machines can be converted but I don't really know which ones are good value etc. There are some Palm based machines (like the Sony Clie TJ25 or 35 for example, very cheap) which are close to the MX7 spec - but it might be hard to get linux to run on them...
