Hello,
I am currently using Multivalent to compress PDFs (i.e. tool.pdf.Compress). For some PDFs this tool reduces not only the size of the document itself but also the size of the pages. The typical example is shown in sample2.pdf (result in sample2-o.pdf): size before compression is 215.9x279.4 mm, size after compression is 210x279.4 mm.
sample1.pdf includes a very extreme example that happened while trying to create an anonymized and very simple sample - it contains only one page, its size is 215.9x279.4 mm and after compression its size is 0x0 mm.
What could be the reason for this? I checked the PDFs with tool.pdf.Validate and got no errors.
Validation:
-----------
java -Xmx128m -classpath "[pathto]\Multivalent.jar" tool.pdf.Validate -full sample2.pdf
Result:
(empty line)
Compression:
------------
java -Xmx128m -classpath "[pathto]\Multivalent.jar" tool.pdf.Compress -compatible sample2.pdf
Result:
file:[pathto]/sample2.pdf, 328973 bytes
PDF 1.5, producer=Antenna House PDF Output Library 2.4.0 (Windows), creator=XSL
Formatter V4.1 MR1 (4,1,2007,0110) for Windows
additional compression may be possible with:
-compact
=> new length = 22885, saved 93%, elapsed time = 0 sec
java version "1.5.0_10"
Java(TM) 2 Runtime Environment, Standard Edition (build 1.5.0_10-b03)

Thanks in advance!
Best regards,
Mathias
