I tried this and its seemed take all day, but when I killed it, I got:
5188091+893263 records in
which man dd says means:
f+p records in(out)
numbers of full and partial blocks read(written)
I'm guessing dd won't quit when the tape is full and so it was just
hung/blocked on the write?
