this is what I get from ´tapeinfo -f /dev/sg5

[root@backuphost root]# tapeinfo -f /dev/sg5

Is that not what it is supposed to report?

What does 'tapeinfo -f /dev/sg5' report? It sounds to me that you might have
a
kernel without LUN support, and thus /dev/sg5 isn't what you think it is.

That's what makes it appear to me that it's a LUN issue and you're issuing

command to the wrong device. See the FAQ at http://mtx.badtux.net for more
info. Also, the contents of /proc/scsi/scsi would be very helpful if there
is
not a LUN issue.
