Thanks for pointing this out. I will fix my build system, and repost SRPMs. BTW ebtable, iptables, glibc-kernel-headers are also broken in the same way. You can download the FC4 RPM I have posted. It is part of the 1.950 release which is not officially released, but is very close. (you'll need to go to the mpls-linux project page on sourceforge). If you choose to go this route, then make sure to look at the examples posted in the mpls-linux document area on sourceforge. Hi James. Can you please describe the installation process on FedoraCore4? Can I apply the diff's to 2.6.11-1 kernel source? Thanks a lot for your work :) |

Hi All, I have been trying to implement the rsvp-te from http://dsmpls.atlantis.ugent.be/ project, but with no sucess. Is there anyone who has been sucessful or can guide how to get it working, Theres seems to be no active support or any mailing list for the project. Anyhelp would be highly appreciated. Yeah the documentation on the QoS instructions is lacking.
I'd be willing to post a document at:
http://sourceforge.net/docman/?group_id=3D15443
That used the same format as the others and showed how to use these
instructions.
My general response when someone asks howto do QoS with MPLS Linux is to
tell them "the same way you do it with standard IPv4 on linux". Which is
true, there are only minor modifications to make it work with MPLS Linux.
So post the commands that you would use to accomplish your QoS scheme
doing it with just IPv4 and I'll help you convert them to MPLS Linux.

Hello,
I´d like to know if anyone have an example or document
that explains how to use QoS with MPLS.
I saw some commands about diffservice in the mpls
help, but it´s difficult to start only with help
information.
Output of mpls help:
----
INSTR := NH | PUSH | pop | deliver | peek | FWD |
set-dscp <DSCP> | set-exp <EXP> |
set-tcindex <TCINDEX> | set-rx-if <NAME>
forward <KEY> | expfwd <EXP> <KEY> ... |
exp2tc <EXP> <TCINDEX> ... | exp2ds <EXP>
<DSCP> ... |
nffwd <MASK> [ <NFMARK> <KEY> ... ] |
nf2exp <MASK> [ <NFMARK> <EXP> ... ] |
tc2exp <MASK> [ <TCINDEX> <EXP> ... ] |
ds2exp <MASK> [ <DSCP> <EXP> ... ] |
dsfwd <MASK> [ <DSCP> <KEY> ... ]
----
Thanks a lot.

YEW CLAIMS The Yew Claims are located on Texada Island, B.C. This region has a long history of mining dating back to 1876. Several high grade copper gold skarns were mined in the area. The geology of the Yew Claims is set out in MINFILE 092F/516 as follows: "The area is dominated by Upper Triassic Karmutsen Formation (Vancouver Group) volcanic rocks consisting of typically fine-grained and/or feldspar phyric basalts and amygdaloidal basalts with minor intercalated limestone beds. At the Yew occurrence, stratigraphy is comprised of three rock units of the Karmutsen Formation. A lower, thick series of green-grey basalt flows that texturally change from amygdaloidal and non-amygdaloidal sequences, is overlain by a thin, white-grey fine-grained limestone that rapidly thins and thickens over short distances. Overlying the limestone is an amygdaloidal basalt breccia with fragments of amygdaloidal basalt up to 15 centimetres. White zeolites, epidote, pyrite, quartz and chlorite comprise vesicle fillings within the basalts. Two hundred metres north of the occurrence, two small diorite plugs intrude the basalts. |

Any reason why you didn't use the FC3 kernel RPM or SRPM I provide?
Just curious.
As for your question, your missing the 'xc' or cross connects. I have post=
ed
more documentation for 1.950 at sourceforge. The examples I've posted for
1.950 will not work _exactly_ for 1.946, but the 'xc' command has not
changed from 1.946 to 1.950 so I think it will be usful to see how it is
used.

Hii James.... I want to ask some ques: I have compiled mpls linux in REDHAT 8.0 successfully with: 1.Linux-kernel 1.4.19 2.mpls-linux 1.170 3.ldp-portable 0.200 4.zebra-0.93a I have patch zebra-0.93a with ldp and change 'create-links' and edit mpls.o to use target mpls at /usr/src/mpls-linux But when i start to compile zebra with 'make' command,i have an error. Hi James, sorry i want to ask some ques
I had installed FD3 in my computers and have compiled
mpls-linux successfully.
I have used : 1.linux-2.6.9.tar
2.mpls-linux-1.946a.tar
3.iproute-2.6.9-3mpls1_946.i386.rpm
4.quagga-0.97.3-1.FC3mpls1_946a.i386.rpm
I have the following simple topology
ip(11.0.4.1) --- LER1 (11.0.1.1) --- (11.0.1.2) LSR1
(11.0.2.1)
--- (11.0.2.2) LSR2 (11.0.3.1) --- (11.0.3.2) LER2 ---
ip(11.0.5.1)
or in MPLS network label topology:
101
100 201 200
LER1------LSR1------LSR2------LER2
Between LER1 and LSR1 use label 100
Between LER2 and LSR2 use label 200
Between LER1 and LER2 use label 101 and 201
assumtion we send with eth0 and receive with eth1
I want ip(11.0.4.1) with/to ip(11.0.5.1) can communicate
I have used the example hierarchy in
http://mpls-linux.sf.net command,but i have confused
because in the http://mpls-linux.sf.net only use two
computers.
I have configured with the following command:
Setup LSP between Ingress LER1 and LSR1:
[root@LER1]#mpls nhlfe add key 0
(key 2)
[root@LER1]#mpls nhlfe change key 0x2 instructions push
gen 100 nexthop eth0 11.0.1.2
[root@LER1]#ip route add 11.0.5.1
[root@LSR1]#mpls labelspace add dev eth1 labelspace 0
[root@LSR1]#mpls ilm add label gen 100 labelspace 0
Setup LSP between Engress LSR2 and LER2:
[root@LSR2]#mpls nhlfe add key 0
(key 2)
[root@LSR2]#mpls nhlfe change key 0x2 instructions push
gen 200 nexthop eth0 11.0.3.2
[root@LER2]#mpls labelspace add dev eth1 labelspace 0
[root@LER2]#mpls ilm add label gen 200 labelspace 0
Setup LSP between LSR1 and LSR2 (label 101):
[root@LSR1]#mpls nhlfe add key 0
(key 2)
[root@LSR1]#mpls nhlfe change key 0x2 instructions push
gen 101 nexthop eth0 11.0.2.2
[root@LSR2]#mpls labelspace add dev eth1 labelspace 0
[root@LSR2]#mpls ilm add label gen 101 labelspace 0
Setup another LSP between LSR1 and LSR2 (201 label):
[root@LSR1]#mpls nhlfe key 0
(key 3)
[root@LSR1]#mpls nhlfe change key 0x3 instructions push
gen 101 nexthop eth0 11.0.2.2
[root@LSR2]#mpls ilm add label gen 201 labelspace 0
Forwarding traffic for the 201 LSP to ride on the 101 LSP:
[root@LSR1]#mpls nhlfe change key 0x3 instrutions push gen
201 forward 0x2
[root@LSR2]#mpls ilm add label gen 101 labelspace 0
Some question that i want to ask:
1.Please check, is my command true and how the solution?
2.How to tie the LSPs together
3.How to configure via tunnel interface
4.How to use quagga,i cannot get the command (config t)
sorry i have much ques,THANKS VERY MUCH BEFORE with your
attention

Hello Joan and Ramon, Its great o here that both of you are interested in working on a RSVP-TE implementation. I have not yet looked at vadim's code, so I do not know the quality. Vadim has done a lot of work that could be a time saver for Ramon, so you can concentrate just one GMPLS extentions (maybe upstream label allocation to :-) Ramon are you open to atleast looking at vadim's code to see if it is useful to you? I would prefer that the RSVP-TE code eventually be made to work on the same porting layer that I have put into ldp-portable, so that two protocol could easily be ported to a new plateform, but at this point I'd just be happy with a GPL or LGPL version that works with quagga :-) BTW Joan, I have started working on quagga + mpls-linux 1.950. I also updated to quagga 0.99.2. Make sure to update your quagga-mpls tree if that is what your using. Are you capable of building your own kernel? If so I have submitted a possible fix for this issue. The fix is to do exactly when IPSEC and IP-IP and IP-GRE do, when a packet comes through MPLS from IPv[46] that is marked for HW checksumming, we calculate the checksum and then mark the packet at no longer needing HW checksumming. The fix is submitted to by development tree. If you need a patch instead, let me know ... Hello James, I did some tests with different machines/linux-distributions and the problem with TCP traffic generally occurs with Intel 82547GI Gigabit network card with Knoppix-MPLS distribution. This card accepts the "ethtool -K eth0 rx/tx off" command, but it isn´t working with TCP connections. It seems that Knoppix don´t work very well with this card and MPLS. The mii-tool command works only to set the autonegotiation speed of network cards. Best regards --- "James R. Leu" <jl...@mi...> escreveu: > What driver is it? Hi, As some of you might remember... there was a post some time ago from Vadim Suarev, who offered his RSVP-TE implementation to the Open source community. I've spent some time over last months testing vadim's implementation, which consisted on two new daemons for quagga (a patched 0.96 version): a te daemon and a rsvp daemon. Vadim's implementation was able to signal MPLS tunnels between Linux and Cisco boxes, but the code was not tightened with the MPLS forwarding. As far as I know this code is not being mantained any more. I've been trying to extract vadim's code from his release in order to make it work with newer quagga versions (starting by 98.5) but my work is on a very early stage. Maybe some parts of the already existing code would feet in your brand new RSVP-TE implementation. I would like to contribute to the development. Joan Ruiz jr...@sa... ---------------------- Excellent news, thanks :) Myself, I have started a new implementation of RSVP-TE, focus is to implement also the GMPLS extensions as well, and add it to the MPLS for Linux project umbrella when it gets usable. Hello, I just released the first version of a SNMP Agent for MPLS for Linux. You can find it at: http://sourceforge.net/projects/mpls-agent/ For now it has support for RFC 3813 (MPLS-LSR-STD) and RFC 3814 (MPLS-FTN-STD). There is a lot of work to be done, but right now it is very stable and works well. One can create and manage LSPs, FECs, LSR and FTN at LER routers. I hope this can contribute for the development of MPLS for Linux. Thank you! Josdeyvi Russi |

What driver is it? I can look in the source to see if it even supports hardware checksumming. Some NIC drivers have not been converted to ethtool yet, try using mii-tool. James, if you remember, some time ago I got a similar problem with ssh connections between MPLS machines. I've solved this problem with the command ethtool, turning off the checksum of my network card. Now, everything is ok with ssh. I don't know why I'm getting the same type of messages from tcpdump now, when I try to use Iperf. It seems that some cards don't accept the ethtool command: "Cannot set device tx csum settings: Operation not supported" I'm going to check it again Best regards! > There is a thread about this in the archive. There is a thread about this in the archive. The short of it is that
you probably have a NIC that does hardware checksumming, which will not
work with MPLS (or any tunneling protocol). I have submitted code
(post 1.950) that recognizes this and turns off hardware checksumming
for MPLS packets. The work around for now is to disable hardware
checksumming on your NICs.
Let me know if this does not fix your issue.

Hello,
I'm trying to measure network traffic with Iperf
between 2 machines with MPLS.
I tested the link with SSH and ping. It works fine.
The problem is that I only receive an answer from
Iperf in one of directions.
Example:
*192.168.0.2(iperf-client) >
192.168.0.1(iperf-server)
It works fine and returns the transmission rate.
*192.168.0.1(iperf-client) > 192.168.0.2(iperf-server)
It doesn't return the transmission rate. It seems that
a little number of packets are changed between the
machines and I get strange results with tcpdump:

There have been a lot a requests in the last few days about this :-)

of the ideas worked out in my head, I just lack the time to implement
them all :-) If you are will to help in the development I would be happy
to help ease the learning curve.
