Hello everybody! I solved my problems as far as compilation and installation of MPLS over linux was concerned (MPLS 1.956 over Kubuntu 7.10 (kernel 2.6.22) ). Thank you all for your answers. Right now i am trying to add different labels to the incoming traffic dependind on the port by which they get to the LER. I send data by 2 different ports (one for the video and the other one for the audio) to the same IP address. What i want to do is creating two different LSP's (audio and video). I don't know the linux instruction necessary that i have to use for the command line. Normally i used to do like this for a single IP address and port. var=`mpls nhlfe add key 0 instructions push gen 1000 nexthop eth0 ipv4 129.175.237.21| grep key |cut -c 17-26` ip route add 129.175.237.24 via 129.175.237.21 mpls $var Any suggestions? Thank you very much, David |

Hello, I'm trying to write a scheduling strategy for 2 different kinds of flows: -flow 1 is MPLS unicast (higher bandwidth reserved) -flow 2 is IP Both flows pass through the interface on which I'm enabling the qdiscs. I tried to write something like: tc qdisc add dev ath1 root handle 1: htb default 10 tc filter add dev ath1 parent 1:0 protocol 0x8847 prio 1 tcindex mask 0xf shift 0 pass_on tc filter add dev ath1 parent 1:0 protocol 0x8847 prio 1 handle 3 tcindex classid 1:13 tc filter add dev ath1 parent 1:0 protocol ip prio 1 handle 1 tcindex classid 1:11 and so on... This way it doesn't work, I think I'd have to specify someway that I want 2 scheduling strategies for 2 different protocols contending for the same resources. How can I do that? I hope I've been clear, otherwise tell me! Thank you, Luca |

If you've installed mpls for fedora (from the rpms from the site), make sure you load the mpls4 module (modprobe mpls4) before issuing mpls commands. Hello everybody! I've just started to use MPLS and I have a little problem. This is my output for the console: root@orange6:~# mpls labelspace set dev eth0 labelspace 0 root@orange6:~# mpls ilm add label gen 2001 labelspace 0 RTNETLINK answers: Cannot allocate memory root@orange6:~# mpls nhlfe show NHLFE entry key 0x00000002 mtu 0 propagate_ttl (0 bytes, 0 pkts) Anybody knows what's happening? something related to the modules? I am using MPLS 1.956 on the linux kernel 2.6.20. Thank you all, David |

James, please review and integrate the attached patches. 01-MPLS-list-for-each: looks like inconsisten list traversal 02-MPLS-use-initializers: otherwise for example lockdep doesn't take into account these spinlocks 03-MPLS-oops-dumping-route-table: if you have lots of routes with shims attached you hit an oops dumping the route table BTW, have you talked lately with netdev folks about integrating your work into the kernel tree? There was a time when madwifi had it's own classifying code, which I disagree with. IMO, it should respect the skb_priority field, which can be set by iptables or generic networking stack code. in net/ipv4/ip_input.c::ip_forward() skb->priority = rt_tos2priority(iph->tos); I believe the correct implementation might be for MPLS to set skb->priority. Perhaps in addition to outgoing interface/label, there should be a priority attribute for label switching, what would get copied here for each packet as it is label-switched. In madwifi 0.9.4 net80211/ieee80211_output.c::ieee80211_classify() you have the details, if WME is enabled, then VLAN priority tag and IP TOS are mapped hardcoded to skb-> priority, overwriting the linux network core's setting. If the packet is not VLAN or IP, it's prio is overwritten always to WME_AC_BE. This is the problem you're having with MPLS. It would be interesting to see how the ath5k driver does this, since madwifi-ng is obsolete. I think wifi code should just use the skb-> priority, instead of implementing it's own policy in 802.11 stack. It's not feasible to duplicate the decoding of priority from all possible protocols, and having it hardcoded in wifi driver. Yes, it could be offset-based, but for this you'll have to inspect the code... >From what I've read the tool you are using allows you to work with the wifi module. Do you mean it could be that MadWifi driver doesn't "understand" the meaning of the packet's fields but only extracts them with some kind of fixed-size masks? I think MadWifi driver has it's own mapping policy, which might make it more difficult. I think it should be configurable, like vlan skb_prio -> vlan priority mapping, but maybe it's not yet. You should look at the wireless driver code. I use iwpriv, available with the madwifi driver. It is not made for MPLS, but I wonder if I can use it or something similar to implement QoS at both layers. My intention was to use 802.11e + some traffic engineering in MPLS. Can you give me some advice about it? Thank you ----Messaggio originale---- Da: adr...@gm...
