#23 mencoder doesn't recognize .mov with reference

I've tried with ffmpegX, Mencoder and D-Vision: The
mencoder binaries don't recognizes .mov's when they are
not self contained. So you can't encode an iMovie film.
Don't tell me to export as a .dv stream first, because it
doesn't help, encoding stops after where the original first
2GB chunk ended.
Reference in .mov files is not a new QT feature, it's there at
least since QT 2.5 ten years ago, so this can be expected to
work.

Anyone out there who can fix this?
