Hi mpg123 folks, I think it is past time to realize that curating two mailing lists for mpg123 does not make sense. I mostly send duplicate announcements to both mpg123-devel and mpg123-users. Any discussion about a usage problem can quickly evolve into a development discussion. People have to wonder to which list a question should be posed. And let's face it: The volume of mpg123 discussion is really low. There is not that much to discuss. Of course that's good and bad, but I'll take the explanation that it's a mature project with software that works well for people who use it. There are right now 22 addresses subscribed to mpg123-devel and 31 to mpg123-users. I do not know how big the overlap is, as sf.net honours your privacy and doesn't tell me the addresses. This is a moderate crowd. So, I hereby suggest that we all switch to the common mpg123-discuss list by subscribing to it on https://sourceforge.net/projects/mpg123/lists/mpg123-discuss and unsubscribing from mpg123-devel and mpg123-users. If somebody has good arguments against this, please speak up. I'll stay subscribed to all lists until it's clear that people are switching. Vote with your feet: If I see people really moving, I can close subscriptions to the old lists and just keep them for the archive. Btw, the new list is configured to not modify the messages, including the subject, to avoid breaking cryptographic signatures. If you rely on [mpg123-users] in the subject for sorting your mail, check out the List-id header field instead. Same for the other headers that contain the further list info and the unsubscribe link that used to be added to the mail body before. Alrighty then, Thomas |
