So, this is getting ridiculous ... sorry for the noise from the spammers in the tracker and the subsequent noise from my wasted life time hiding the spammer's efforts. This sucks. Especially with the flooding of mpg123-devel with irrelevant messages. I hereby want to ask you folks about what we (I) should do about this: 1. Disable the email notifications of tracker changes to mpg123-devel. This would of course do nothing about the SPAM being actually present on the tracker ... and it would make it a bit harder to follow mpg123 development. I'd have to add eMail notifications for the core developers only. I do prefer having notifications about newly discovered or fixed bugs on the -devel list, though. And writing separate mails for opened/closed tracker items is lame. 2. Disable anonymous posting on the trackers. It is always a huge turn-off for me when I want to submit a bug someplace and I have to register beforehand. I rather like trackers to have minimal barriers so that people really report issues. 3. Move to another tracker solution where one can set up SPAM filtering, at least proper (post) moderation of tracker items and comments. I have lost quite some amount of life time fighting with the SourceForge site and am somewhat tempted to set up trac or somethin' on the main mpg123 server. We're quite self-hosted, anyway. Tracker spam might be easier to manage with an own setup ... especially, there will always be a way to delete the crap. With Source Forge, this is not the case. Point 3 would mean anoher step towards leaving SourceForge entirely ... the only services left would be the mailing list and the download mirrors. Suggestions? Oh, I forgot the final possibility: 4. Do nothing. Accept the SPAM. Alrighty then, Thomas. |
