Hallo
I use your fine program to hear excerps of large works (for example Wagner Operas...).
Is it possible to add a feature FADE IN, FADE OUT when playing a (part of a) track?
The possibility to define a fade time should be optimal, but 1 sec fixed before reaching full volume (in fade in) or zero (in fade out) will be fine!
Thank you for your work!

I'll think about whether fading should be something supported by the to-come libsyn123.

    Thank you Thomas!

I tried to do a fade in/out via a loop with the parameter -f, but it didn't work... it was not 'smooth'!

Hm. Now that libsyn123 exists, with conversion and mixing stuff … volume ramps could maybe be part of it. But this is a separate question to whether/how the mpg123 application should do fades.

Is the idea that there is a parameter --fadein a and also --fadeout b to define times (in seconds, milliseconds?) that causes mpg123 to fade in and out of each track? Or even on each seek?

      Hallo and thank you!

Yes, a parameter |--fadein a| and also |--fadeout b| to define times (in
milliseconds) that causes mpg123 to fade in and out of a single track
(for my application I use mpg123 only on a track at a time).

      Thanks

Long time no see … but I'm thinking about this again, also considering how another app of mine does volume ramps. How long would typical fadein/out times be for you? How smooth should the changes be? I am wondering if we actually should do a perfectly smooth ramp with a different volume for each sample or simply one constant volume per frame (1152 samples, 26 ms). The latter would even be computationally free of charge, as we could do it inside libmpg123. But maybe the jumps in volume would get noticed as clicks. In my other app, I apply some interpolated smoothing just for that. Hm.

Ciao and thanks for your work. For me 1 sec in/out would be ok, but sure without clicks... if possible :-).
With clicks it'd be of no use for me...
    Thank you
